Pecunism

Pecunism (pronounced pe-KYOON-ism) is discrimination against the impecunious -- those with little or no money. It can be defined as
  • discrimination on the basis of money (wealth or income)
  • discrimination on the basis of socioeconomic status (SES)
  • socioeconomic discrimination
It's from the Latin word for money: pecunia

Pecunism is a serious problem. Having a word for it is a step toward a solution. Here are some examples:
Clearly, pecunism is a big deal. It should be taken more seriously. It helps to have a word for it! Just as sexism is discrimination on the basis of sex, and racism is discrimination on the basis of "race", pecunism is discrimination on the basis of money.
